John Tjia

Mr. Tjia is Principal at TMG & Associates, a consultancy providing modeling services to banking and corporate clients. He was most recently Executive Director in the Valuation & Business Modeling practice in Ernst & Young’s Transaction Advisory Practice in New York, leading modeling projects for Fortune 500 clients in the FP&A, leveraged finance credit origination, asset management and the long-range planning for utilities space, among others. He created and conducted many of the internal training courses for the 90-strong modeling team. He developed the internal valuation tool currently used by EY to support client engagements.

In an earlier role at JP Morgan Chase, he was an investment banker in that firm's Hong Kong office, serving clients in China and the Southeast Asia region. He provided the primary modeling for the financing of the new Hong Kong International Airport then under construction, the first IPO of an Indonesian state bank, as well as various power project finance projects in China and Thailand. In New York, as head of the Models Group in the Investment Banking division, he developed the M&A transaction analysis tools used by the investment banking teams worldwide.

Mr. Tjia is the author of “Building Financial Models” (McGraw-Hill). The third edition of this comprehensive guide to financial modeling will be published in early 2018. A natural mentor and seasoned trainer, he has conducted financial modeling courses in Europe, South America and Asia.
